God’s Planet for Haiti (GP4H) is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization based in Maryville, Tennessee, USA. Established in 2010, it is also recognized in Haiti as an international nonprofit organization.
Our mission is to bring the gospel of Jesus Christ to the Haitian people along with medical and dental assistance and to meet the needs of the children through education.
We believe as God says in Proverbs 22:6, “Train up a child in the way he should go, even when he is old, he will not depart from it.”
School Ministry and Education
In 2011, a Christian school was built and opened in Marmont, Hinche, Haiti in an area that had few schools. Currently the ministry owns seven acres approximately sixty miles outside Port-A-Prince. The buildings consist of six classrooms, an office, storage area, kitchen and cafeteria, restroom, and a multipurpose building used for church services and medical clinics. In addition, the ministry drilled a well that provides water for the school and the entire community. Before the well, people would get water from a spring. When the spring was dry, they had to walk five or 10 miles to get water.
Upon opening the school, only 16 students attended. Presently, there are around 100 students, ages 3 to13, as well as teachers, a principal, a cook and janitor. Instruction follows Haiti’s core curriculum as well as Bible teaching, English, Spanish, and world history. Children are provided breakfast and lunch at the school. Parent involvement is required for children to attend.
Our goal, through the continued support of donors and volunteers, is to increase the size of the school each year one grade level at a time while also creating a vocational program for students as they graduate to higher grade levels. Through this vocational program, the students will obtain the skills needed as an adult in Haiti’s growing economy such as agriculture, plumbing, electrical, sewing, and computer skills.
We pray that as Haiti recovers and rebuilds, the children will be equipped to lead the country in a better direction and become self-sufficient for the future. By teaching Christ’s example of the importance of giving and helping others, as adults they will continue in this pattern of living that will glorify God.
Medical and Dental Assistance
Millions of people in Haiti lack access to affordable healthcare, housing, education, and stable employment. Even more lack access to routine dental care, with very few dentists in the entire country. Because of these factors, coupled with the fact that Haiti is also prone to severe natural disasters, many individuals are left with few choices with it comes to accessing even the most basic of health and dental care. For many, this ultimately leads to a lifetime of pain, suffering, and early death.
Carson-Newman University Medical Team
From the 2010 earthquake in Haiti until 2017, Carson-Newman University (CN) Department of Nursing located in Jefferson City, Tennessee, USA sent a team to help provide medical care to those in Haiti with limited or no access to medical care. The medical team consisted of CN Nurse and Health Science faculty, students, and alumni health care providers along with other physicians, nurse practitioners, pharmacists, physical therapists, etc. Care was provided to the God’s Planet for Haiti School children in Hinche, their parents, local residents, and area prisoners. The medical team further provided care for various surrounding communities in local church settings. CN worked alongside God’s Planet for Haiti, Ogle Foundation, and Radio Bible Hour to provide holistic health care to the people of Haiti.
Remote Area Medical
Twice a year, since 2018, Remote Area Medical (RAM) based out of Rockford, Tennessee, USA aims to alleviate pain and suffering of the Haitian residents by providing free, quality dental, medical, and vision care to children and the needy in the community and prisons. The medical team consists of doctors, dentists, nurses, pharmacists, physical therapists, etc. The volunteers are from many states within the United States. These semi-annual mobile clinics directly improve the health and lives of thousands of Haitians each year.
Our jail ministry for the overcrowded prisons in Haiti seeks to save lost souls. Not only do we bring them the gospel, prisoners are also provided with basic necessities such as toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, and Bibles as well as basic medical and dental assistance.
God’s Planet for Haiti along with Ogle Foundation and Radio Bible Hour previously provided pastoral training to equip pastors in Haiti with the resources needed to spread the gospel. We pray to reestablish this conference in the near future.
Executive Director and Founder, Jemps Maignan became a U.S. citizen on August 26, 2011 and resides in Maryville, Tennessee. At the age of 14 Jemps realized a calling on his life to help educate the Haitian people and to bring them the good news of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. He travels periodically to Haiti to oversee the operations of the school and medical assistance. While in the U.S., he works odd jobs, mostly in remodeling, to support himself and his son.
God’s Planet for Haiti is funded strictly through financial contributions, nonmonetary donations, and fundraisers. All funds raised by GP4H are used strictly in the ministry to pay the staff along with purchasing food and school supplies. At Christmas each child receives a shoebox gift filled with a toy, toothbrush, socks, shoes, underwear, soap, shampoo, and other essential items distributed during a dinner hosted by the ministry for the entire village.
“The idea is to take 20 more children every year and educate them through high school as we get the support,” said Executive Director and founder Jemps Maignan.
